About 1 ZULU

1 Zulu is a small Australian business that represents my professional work, technical interests, and independent consulting practice. It provides a single home for the services I deliver, the projects I create, and the knowledge I choose to share.

Sometimes that work is performed as an employee or subcontractor embedded within a client’s organisation. Other times it is delivered directly through 1 Zulu as independent consulting.

1 Zulu is also where I develop and publish technical projects, tools, systems, articles, and other resources that may be useful to the wider community. From time to time, I also undertake pro bono work, contributing my skills to individuals, organisations, or causes where I believe I can make a positive difference.

1 Zulu is intentionally a business of one. It is not a startup, nor is it a company I intend to grow into a large consulting firm with employees. Its purpose is simply to provide a professional identity for the work I do, while giving me a place to share ideas, build useful solutions, and deliver consulting services when opportunities arise.

The name 1 Zulu comes from the Royal Australian Navy ‘damage control’ state Condition One Zulu — the highest state of material readiness, where every watertight and airtight opening is secured and the ship is fully prepared for action. It reflects a mindset of preparedness, professionalism, attention to detail, and getting the fundamentals right before moving forward. Those same principles underpin every piece of work delivered under the 1 Zulu name.
